The end has come for the Self #NoTakeoutChallenge that I mostly took part in for the last four weeks. I only cheated three times in thirty days, so I think I did fairly well. The challenge, a collaboration between Self Magazine (one of my fave reads) and Food52 blog, was to fall in love with cooking in 28 days. There were 4 weeks of delicious recipes supplied by Food52 – each week had a different theme to make your life easier from 5-ingredient dishes to 30-minute meals. Each Sunday, you were … [Read more...]
Foodie Friday | Spiced Vegan Lentil Soup
I've already told you how much I love the Cookie and Kate blog in last week's post about my favourite food bloggers. But today, I wanted to shine an extra special spotlight on my new favourite soup recipe. After hearing my friends talk about how much they liked lentils, I was determined to test out some lentil recipes and figure out just what made these guys so exciting. My Google search consisted of "kale and lentil soup" because I love having greens in broth and it came up with the best lentil … [Read more...]
My Go-To Food Blogs
My brain is constantly filled with new recipes that I want to try. Most of these come from scouring the Internet in my free time looking at drool-worthy recipes to make. My mom and I have been very consistent lately with making at least one new dinner per week and I have been doing my best to test one lunch recipe a week to keep things interesting. This keeps me from spending money and also ensures that I don’t get bored having the same sandwich or salad every day. As much as I love a good … [Read more...]
Foodie Friday | One Pot Balsamic Chicken
Moms on Facebook, need I say more? My mom is basically religiously affiliated to her Facebook newsfeed. Not only does she scroll it regularly but she will watch everything and even play the "funniest video" for us before she has even seen it herself. A couple weeks ago, she reposted a Tip Hero video for One Pot Balsamic Chicken and we decided we this may be worthy of trying out ourselves. The result was delicious - not a surprise when my mom picks the recipe! It was also really easy to make and … [Read more...]
Lunchbox Ideas | How to be healthier even when you don’t want to
Lunchtime is the bane of my existence when it comes to trying to live a healthier life. Leading up to event days, I regularly forget to eat lunch until about 4 p.m. so I am usually running downstairs to grab something from Tim Horton’s or Pizza Pizza. On other days, I am often too lazy or bored to eat something I brought from home. Because I have recognized this unhealthy habit, I have been working hard to try and make changes. Here are some of my best lunchbox tips and ideas: Try new … [Read more...]
You’ve Gotta Eat Here: Milan, Italy
Pizza, pasta, pinot and pints, oh my! If you don’t like carbs this is NOT the post for you. On my recent trip to Europe, I spent the weekend in Milan and mixed in a day trip to Lake Como. Robyn and I headed from the flat to Standstead Airport very early on Friday morning and arrived in Italy just in time for lunch. After dropping our bags off at our hostel, we headed out on our search for pizza and pasta. Our first stop was Tavola Calda Open Bar, located just a few doors down from our … [Read more...]
