It really is beginning to look a lot like Christmas! I woke up this morning to a winter wonderland and it doesn’t look like the snowfall is stopping anytime soon. Christmas is officially only two weeks away! Can you believe it is already here? Where did the year go? That’s a question for another day.
I’ve really been living up the name of Christmas vacation by incorporating as many Christmas things as possible into the free time that I have. From watching the Grinch on a regular basis (read: every other day) to present exchanges with friends going on vacation (read: the lucky BFF who left me for Hawaii), I am quite content with my week so far. And there are so many good things to come!
On the off chance that you may be feeling a little Bah Humbug about the whole season, I’ve composed a fun list of things to do to get into the holiday spirit. These are some things I have already enjoyed and the others are coming up in my calendar!
Have a snow day.
Thanks to my hibernation today, I can now say that I have done this both literally and figuratively. On Tuesday, I headed downtown with my friend Kayley to The Marilyn Denis Show- which was snow day themed! We were given some cozy onesies and watched as Marilyn discussed hot chocolate, comfy yet fashionable loungewear and strangely awesome Christmas gifts with her guests. Today, I am enjoying talk shows from the comfort of my bed because everyone deserves a day out of the cold.
Christmas cookies are one of my top ten reasons to live. This year I am lucky enough to be travelling to Ottawa to make cookies with my grandma for the first time in ages! The woman is a genius with an apron and I can’t wait to help her, especially with the sugar cookies – my personal favourite. Check back next week for an in-depth look at what we made and some recipes!
I have wanted to check out the Toronto Christmas market forever. i checked this goal off my list this week and went two days in a row! I figured seeing it in both the day and night was the only way to do it. This place is seriously the cutest! With delicious food (read: best poutine I’ve ever had) and so many adorable vendors, the only thing missing from my experience was my non-existent boyfriend. Luckily, I had great friends to share it with.
Watch a holiday favourite
Shameless plug to a previous post. Honestly though, can you watch a Christmas classic without smiling? Do yourself a favourite and head to Netflix as soon as humanly possible (read: right now). They have all your favourites and some random ones you’ve never heard of.
Potlucks and Parties
If you haven’t been invited to a potluck or party yet, throw one! ‘Tis the season to get together with awesome people and eat amazing food. My class had an incredible potluck last week to celebrate the end of the school year and I’m headed to another one Saturday. This is a great way to bring out your creativity and enjoy the season with people you love.
I’ve already done some great exchanges with my amazing friends. I am so grateful for all the thought they put into my gifts. But more importantly, gift giving is an invigorating feeling. Heading out to the malls can be scary this time of year but I promise you will get a jolt of Christmas cheer when you find that perfect match for someone on your list!
What do you do to get in the Christmas mood?
