Ah Sunday – the coziest day of the week. Also, sometimes the scariest due to that terrifying moment when you realize Monday is literally just around the corner. I love Sundays. This is probably due to the fact that I am obsessed cheesy quotes like “a Sunday well spent brings a week of content!”
I have fallen a bit out of the morning routine I like to follow over the last couple months but if there is one day of the week I show my truest Type-A self, it is Sunday. Following the steps below generally leads to me at least starting the week off on the right foot.
Sadly, I have become a bit of an early riser thanks to my Monday to Friday alarm and my tendency to not party as much as I used to. Fear not my almost mid-twenties friends! If you are like me in this sense, use this to your advantage. After grabbing a bite to eat, I head to the grocery store before the rest of the world wakes up. You will automatically be setting yourself up for a healthier week when you have a fresh pile of fruits and veggies in the fridge. I have also found that you receive the most pleasant greetings from all store employees first thing on Sunday mornings. This is probably because Farm Boy has the nicest staff ever – I can tell you it is definitely not because I am looking like a celebrity after rolling out of bed and heading to the store but having everyone say good morning to me sure makes me feel like one!
A natural progression to follow a big grocery shop is cooking – duh! I love to use Sundays to test out different recipes/cookbooks. Recently, I cooked up a bunch of recipes from Oh She Glows Every Day for a post! I find the kitchen to be incredibly therapeutic. Making delicious food is very relaxing to me and I love sharing it with my family. Today, I whipped up some sweet potato and pea samosas from the Love and Lemons cookbook.
Tidying and laundry
How incredibly exciting do I seem from the first three activities in this post? About as cool as your grandma, right? Somehow my room tends to get messy through the week. I suspect it has a lot to do with the fact that I haven’t been choosing my outfits the night before which leads to quick changes before running out the door in the mornings. But anyways, I like to spend at least a bit of time organizing the clothes in my room, making my bed and cleaning my clothes. They say a happy wife makes a happy life – I say an organized closet does the same.
Once my fridge, kitchen, room and clothes are all clean, the only thing left to do is be clean myself. I like to take a little more time on Sundays to give my skin and hair some extra love. I’ve really been enjoying using my Bumble and Bumble Color Minded Conditioner as a ten-minute hair mask. As a general rule, unless I am going out I tend to avoid makeup on the weekends as much as I can. I like to let my face breathe. Sundays are never complete without using some sort of mask to get me fresh-faced for the week! Lately I’ve been using First Aid Beauty’s Skin Rescue Purifying Mask with Red Clay. Note – this peel-off mask is very red and may cause concern to your dad that your skin is burning off due to the colour (this really happened to me).
It can sometimes be really hard to find the time to blog when you have a Monday to Friday job. This makes weekends incredibly important for my favourite hobby. I love turning on my favourite Spotify playlist (currently Shawn Mendes’ new album) and sipping a cup (or three) of Yorkshire tea while creating content, taking photos, editing, etc.
My final moments of Sunday are usually pretty relaxing. If I have managed to make it through all of the above tasks (which I have today BTW), I like to end the day by lighting one of my favourite fall candles and curling up with a good book. Reading before bed helps me to find the time to somehow make it through the thirty-five plus books I am hoping to read over the next six months AND keeps my brain from screen time which makes it easier to sleep. I just finished Amy Schumer’s book, The Girl with the Lower Back Tattoo, and will be starting How to Love tonight!
What do you do to make Sunday special?
