Exploring Ontario is one of my favourite fall activities. Remember last year around this time when I took in the beauty around my parent’s trailer? Last weekend, I visited a great friend in Port Hope. We spent the afternoon exploring the downtown shops which are full of adorable antique finds and cool clothing. The quaint town is worth the hour drive for the scenery alone but let’s talk about the food!!
Recently featured on the Food Network’s You Gotta Eat Here was only one of the reasons Courtney suggested checking out Olympus Burger. As the website title suggests – they really are serving up food of the gods. The previous location of Port Hope’s KFC has transitioned into a burger joint ideal for all diets. I opted for the Zeus burger (fresh beef patty, peameal bacon, caramelized onions, sauteed mushrooms, aged white cheddar cheese, Olympus BBQ sauce, lettuce and a pickle) and Courtney feasted on Demeter (black bean patty, lettuce, tomato, caramelized onions and Swiss cheese). We both got a side of Olympus fries (home-cut fries topped with feta cheese and special Olympus sauce). Olympus is gluten-friendly and has more than one option for vegetarian fries! I left feeling very full and less like a god physically because of my stuffed tummy but very satisfied!
We finished off our meal with a Port Hope must-have, the Crazy Cookie! Courtney tells me President’s Choice has approached the creator of this delicacy for the recipe and they said no. An understandable decision because I wouldn’t want to have this delicious mix of chocolate chips, caramel and chocolate drizzle in any place outside of the adorable cafe it is currently housed in. To all my coffee fans: Crazy Cookie also comes in coffee form – a taste that is almost too good to be true. I would personally consider moving to Port Hope just so I could stop by and get one on my way to work Monday morning.
